AWN can replace Gnome panel
Avant Window Navigator, or AWN for friends, just take a big step forward to replace the default Gnome panel, is that now we can see if we receive an email, if Dropbox is well updated or raise and lower the volume from within the AWN.
I can not wait to try it. If you use ubuntu Lucid, simply type in a console the following commands: sudo
add-apt-repository ppa: awn-testing/ppa & & sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get
install avant-window-navigator- trunk awn-applets-c-core-trunk awn-applets-c-extras awn-applets-trunk-python-core-trunk awn-applets-python-extras-trunk
So thanks to this we forget (if we ) Gnome panel ... and to eliminate it (copied from UbuntuLife):
As discussed in AWN FAQ we could run the following command from a terminal:
gconftool-2 - type = string - set / desktop / gnome / session / required_components / panel 'avant-window-navigator'
And if we want to permanently remove the panel gnome:
gconftool-2 - type = list - list-type = string - set / desktop / gnome / session / required_components_list '[windowmanager, filemanager]'
But this is not recommended as discussed in Geek World it has side effect such that we can not start the Alt + F2 launcher is better for both hide the panel (right click on the panel> Properties > Hide automatically) but leaves a visible portion strange. We can fix that last with: ALT + F2 gconf-editor, looking for the key "/ apps / panel / toplevels / nombre_panel / auto_hide_size" and putting it to 0.
If you repent and want to regain the panels back to the configuration editor "gconf-editor" and leave everything as in the picture above and also the list of elements:
ie the list should have 3 elements and in the list, the element "panel" is "gnome-panel."
